[ ... This is not how she expected the day to go. And part of her considers protesting, but the other part of her has already decided-- no, everything hurts. She's found him, he's doing better, she can handle being carried.
Unfortunately, as she shuffles a little closer, the dove hops on in and flutters onto his head-- before it falls off gracelessly, but more importantly--!!
She's very small, much smaller than she is now, and scared and frightened. A group of men have her surrounded, yanking her hair and trying to hold her still long enough to tie her up. Everything hurts, but still she squirms and kicks out and pleads and cries.
Suddenly, a rather statuesque woman appears, hair and eyes matching Mary's nearly perfectly. She's quick to reach for her child's hand and try to pull her to safety, but one of the men shoves her and sends her sprawling. Mary's sobbing hysterically in her arms as one man raises a club towards them, and that's when her mother's grip tightens.
The next moment, the man turns to stone, the memory fades...
... And Mary's forehead hits Souji's shoulder as the vertigo hits hard. ]
[ Souji immediately catches her, purely out of instinct though, since he's still disoriented by the memory he's just saw. the unfamiliarity of it coupled with the realization that this isn't his own. these are people he's never seen before hurting not him, but Mary —
it's sickening. yet another reminder that humanity really isn't worth more than the dregs it spits out, if children like Mary have to suffer through the violence no child deserves. the more pragmatic part of Souji notes that he has no way of understanding the reasons behind why this situation happened, and then another part decides that he's not interested in whatever reasons a group of men may have to corner a child and raise a weapon against her. ]
action; also im tagging back after a million years pls forgive
[ he tries to shake the image from his mind long enough to shift his attention back to the girl in his arms. she doesn't seem physically hurt, but Souji's already experienced a couple of very unwanted memory exchanges to know how gross the feeling is after...
So instead of saying anything, he just moves his arms to make Mary more comfortable and very gently... and somewhat awkwardly.... pats her on the back... IS HE DOING THIS RIGHT?? ]
[ Her head is still swimming miserably, and Mary lets out a tiny groan of... probably acknowledgment. Just breathing and not moving at all seems like a great idea. Does she have any idea what he just witnessed? Nope, but he's not screaming in horror, so maybe it wasn't... that bad?
action; IT'S FINE YOU'RE NOT HER TYPE
